I created the model of the cab above to represent ways to access social determinants of health. While this is a framework accessible by all, in order to create action something concrete is needed. Healthy People 2030 is the cab which can be accessed through the brand known as "HP2030". The technique used with the "rubber meets the road is the SDOH technique. I have outlined this technique below.
Thank you all of those who heeded the call to action and participated in this announcement about Healthy People 2030. We were also getting a group of students, faculty, administrators who brought together ideas and resources to compile a letter that stated the importance of improving several areas of the Healthy People 2030 and social determinants of health. While I was not able to personally reach out to you, I was able to get personal confirmation that the Department of Health and Human Services did receive this.

Healthy People 2030 sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-being over the next decade and is comprised of 355 objectives.
Leading Health Indicators (LHIs) are a small subset of high-priority objectives selected to drive action toward improving health and well-being.

In addition, HHS is seeking evidence-based information regarding the relationship between voter participation and health as a measure of civic engagement to support the Healthy People social determinants of health (SDOH) framework. Civic engagement is a component of the Social and Community Context domain of the Healthy People SDOH framework.
The public is also invited to submit proposals for additional new core, developmental, or research objectives that meet the criteria outlined below.
History:
Since 1980, Healthy People has provided a comprehensive set of national health promotion and disease prevention objectives with 10-year targets aimed at improving the health of all. Healthy People 2030 objectives present a picture of the nation's health at the beginning of the decade, establish national goals and targets to be achieved by the year 2030, and monitor progress over time. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is soliciting the submission of written comments regarding three new objectives proposed to be added to Healthy People 2030 since the initiative's launch in August 2020. The public is also invited to submit proposals for additional new core, developmental, or research objectives that meet the criteria outlined below.
The Form Below is built such that your comments are sent directly to the Health and Human Services at HP2030Comments@hhs.gov so that you do not need access to an email address. Thank you.
Thank you!
I feel like I have been involved in advocacy for a long time. When I ran for elections, I did not know the results until I opened the campus newspaper, Technique, on March 15, 2002 (below). I was thrilled to find out that I had been elected. This was after an unsuccessful attempt at running for student government.

Even on October 4, 2002 (pictured below), I participating in advocacy and articulating policy at Georgia Tech in trying to raise awareness about our nation's conflict in the Middle East. While war is usually never the answer, the purpose of a teach-in is to understand all sides. In 2002, the evidence for weapons of mass destruction were exaggerated. The invasion had geopolitical repercussions. However, any war with civilian casualties, especially those which include women and children, are unacceptable. In modern day, we are grappling with the Russian invasion of Ukraine starting February 24, 2022.

After going down memory lane in order to demonstrate the importance of advocacy, I wanted to share about the advocacy in Washington DC regarding some legislation surrounding the Momnibus Bill. The Society of Public Health Educators (SOPHE) is important for advocacy for public health officials. I was able to talk about the importance of not only using public funding, but also leveraging public-private partnerships in order to better administer funds. I was able to talk with representatives regarding this matter. Also, during the summit, I collaborated with others to present about practical ways to apply social research.
Below was the description of the seminar:
Despite vast improvements in overall health for the general population, ethnic-racial minorities still experience poorer health outcomes than their non-minority counterparts. In this webinar, we will share original research findings from a nationally representative dataset and provide concrete steps on how to transform original research into actionable policy. We will explore how discrimination, residential segregation, and structural racism continue to influence access and delivery of medical care through social determinants of health from the context of Healthy People 2030. Also, we will share important findings pertaining to ethnic-racial mortality disparities.
Below is the actual presentation from the Society of Public Health Education, who was responsible for hosting a wonderful summit.
