Gary Szirony PhD, NCC, LPC


Dr. Sri Banerjee has nearly 20 years of experience in the areas of Public Health and Global Health. He has worked at the Centers for Disease Control in the area of infectious diseases and has worked on public health projects worldwide. Additionally, he has conducted international research in the areas of HIV, Ebola, and chronic diseases and has experience writing grant proposals.
He has conducted geospatial analysis to determine the precise connection between cancer and the environment. His experience as a public health consultant and serving on the board of directors of public health organizations help in providing a practical front line perspective to the learning of public health. Also, he has experience in mentoring students in the disciplines of public health, medicine, and psychology.
He has also coauthored and published more than 50 research articles in prestigious journals such as the Lancet, and the Journal of American Medical Association with emphasis on global health, social epidemiology, cancer, and injury prevention. He is often involved in advocacy by advising state senators on health policy and advocacy regarding Medicaid coverage and social determinants of health, through the Society of Public Health Educators.
More recently, his research has received widespread attention from prominent media outlets such as Yahoo News, Healthline, HealthDigest, and MSN Health News.
G. Michael Szirony, PhD, NCC, CRC, is a core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Walden University. Having graduated from Kent State University with a doctorate in counseling and human development, and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, he completed his training in medical hypnoanalysis at Northeast Ohio Medical University and his doctoral internship at Western Reserve Psychiatric Hospital in Sagamore Hills, Ohio. He is a recipient of the National Rehabilitation Associations JPD Research Award and has served in leadership positions in academia as well as in counseling associations. In addition, he is a long term member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Humanistic Counseling, and studied at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.
Dr. Szirony has published articles and book chapters on counseling, COVID, rehabilitation, neuropsychology, and distance education, has presented at national and state conferences. He has held faculty positions at Kent State University, Ohio University, and at UA. He managed a private practice for several years.
